In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding, for the most part, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), the Obama Administration is continuing its impelemtation of this signifcant legislation. For the last two years, federal agencies have issued over 50 final rules creating new regulations, or amending existing one, related to the health insurance market, employers, and the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Many states have moved forward with establishing insurance exchanges, which will be the key mechanism for currently uninsured indivudals to purchase health insurance in the private market.
